Stories.

Welcome Back,

I hope you had a wonderful break from blogging. This week we are reading and writing success stories!

Please go to the following link:

http://condor.depaul.edu/~cwren/booklets/college/pp0-1.htm

In order to avoid everyone doing the same story please read the success story that correlates with your Communication Skills period. For example, if you are in 3rd period C.S. do the third story listed in the table of contents. Another example, if you are in 8th period C.S. do the eighth story listed in the table of contents.

Your assignment is to read one of the assigned success stories and post a summary on the thread. Once completed, you should then write a personal success story on how you overcame a learning disability, or how you are going to overcome your learning disability. There is no desired length, but your summary should include all of the main points and your personal story should go to an appropriate length (based on teacher's opinion)

If you have any questions, please feel free to come and talk with me. I will not answer questions over the weekend.

Remember have fun with the success story. This can be both informative and creative!

  1. It seemed as though that there were a lot of issues or adversity during this college experience. He had trouble organizing his things together, his lack of preparation prepared his stress level to rise, and he had visual perceptual problems which made him even more messy and disorganized. When you have trouble organizing things together, it establishes a stressful environment. He was overly stressed to the point where he didn’t know what to do with himself. His lack of preparation caused much anxiety. His studying skills at the time were ineffective. His visual perceptual problems created a couple bad things. He had spent all of his energy trying to put all of his notes together so he can actually study. He spent more time organizing than studying his material.

  2. The essay that I have read is about how college students have many differnt troubles. Some excel in other areas others fail at other areas. Some excel in writing others fail. Some people are even considered "dumb". This is very similiar to my life until I came to pennington. Mr. Moore has helped me overcome my ADD in many ways but we still have a long way to go in order to perfect it.

  3. The story I read was about a student when in high school, took the work very seriously. The student worked very hard on homework and studied hard because he took pride in his work. It took him longer to do work then other students because of his learning disability. He put his school work before relaxing and his social life. Reading and writing are a struggle but finds that math and science come very easy. This was because of his learning disability. He was an over achiever in school, and his learning disability caused him to take longer then everyone else to accomplish the goals he wanted in school.
I can relate to it because it takes me a lot longer then most students to do reading and writing assignments. Although I am not an over achiever in school, I do manage to balance it well with my social life, and getting decent grades. In order to complete the tasks of an average student with out a learning disability, it could take twice as long and effort. Even though this is the case it goes not mean it cannot be done. I have learned to deal with my learning disability by balancing my social life, hobbies and school work. I may not get the best grades but I am motivated to succeed in everything I do.
